Clinical Teledermatology Protocol

Consultant Dermatologist Mole Checks

Prior to any cosmetic lesion removal at Plasma NI, every mole undergoes mandatory digital teledermatology screening evaluated by a GMC-registered UK Consultant Dermatologist via Map My Mole.

Clinical Triage Guide: The ABCDE Criteria
Click each indicator to explore key parameters dermatologists evaluate when assessing a mole:
Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not mirror the other half in shape or contour. Healthy benign moles are typically symmetrical.
Border Irregularity: The edges of the lesion are notched, irregular, ragged, or poorly defined rather than smooth.
Colour Variation: Pigmentation is uneven across the surface, showing shades of brown, black, pink, blue, or white.
Diameter: The mole measures larger than 6mm across (approximate width of a pencil eraser), though atypical lesions can be smaller.
Evolving / Changing: The lesion is visibly changing in size, shape, elevation, or shade, or exhibiting symptoms like itching, bleeding, or crusting.

Map My Mole is an advanced digital teledermatology pathway linking Plasma NI directly with GMC-registered UK Consultant Dermatologists.

1
Dermoscopic Imaging: In-clinic, we capture cross-polarized magnified images revealing subsurface cellular structures.
2
Encrypted Transmission: High-resolution dermoscopic data is instantly transmitted to the consultant network.
3
Consultant Review: A UK Consultant Dermatologist scrutinizes pigment architecture and vascular patterns.
4
Written Clearance (24–48 hrs): A formal report confirms whether cosmetic removal can proceed safely.

You can send high-resolution images via WhatsApp for initial pre-consultation triage before attending your appointment.

Photography Guidelines for Triage:
  • Context Shot: Take one photo from ~30cm away to show where the lesion is located on your body.
  • Close-Up Shot: Take a focused, well-lit close-up image. Ensure clear focus with no glare or shadows.
  • Scale Marker: Place a small ruler or coin beside the mole to show exact dimensions.

Note: WhatsApp photo triage provides preliminary assessment. Formal medical clearance requires in-clinic dermatoscopic imaging.

Attempting cosmetic removal on an unassessed mole carries significant clinical risk. Plasma or surgical procedures destroy surface tissues, preventing future histological testing.

If an atypical lesion or melanoma is treated cosmetically without prior screening, cancerous cells may remain underneath the skin, delaying critical diagnosis and care. Our screening workflow guarantees safety before any aesthetic intervention.

No. Map My Mole provides an expert screening and risk-stratification service by a Consultant Dermatologist. It accurately identifies suspicious structural patterns requiring investigation, but does not provide a histological diagnosis.

A definitive diagnosis requires a surgical biopsy examined under a microscope. If your screening report flags suspicious features, we immediately direct you to your GP or NHS specialist rather than proceeding with cosmetic removal.

Once written clearance confirms your lesion is entirely benign and suitable for aesthetic removal, we outline your personalized treatment plan.

Benign moles are treated at Plasma NI using precision plasma technology. Treatments include full local numbing, precise targeted energy delivery, and comprehensive medical aftercare instructions for optimal skin recovery.
